Green Action
How Green are we? Companies, like individuals, must assume their share of responsibility as tenants of Planet Earth. Fresh Kitchen is dedicated to making great strides in environmentally sustainable practices.
Organics
Organic agriculture works in harmony with nature to produce food that is free of man-made toxins, promoting the health of consumers and planet Earth. Where possible, Fresh Kitchen is dedicated to providing our customers organic choices in produce, meats and grocery.
The 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Everyone at Fresh Kitchen – from our Team Members to the owner – works to honor this golden rule of environmental stewardship.
Reduce
We are taking the following initiatives to reduce our impact on the earth and its resources. Paperless ordering systems with our suppliers and an e-newsletter insures that we utilize limited paper resources efficiently. Our kitchen composting program will aid in reducing the amount of waste heading to our landfills.
Reuse
Fresh Kitchen will reuse material of all kinds whenever possible. We strongly encourage the use of reusable grocery bags. As well, we are implementing the use of biodegradable cutlery made of corn. We are committed to a NO STYROFOAM environment with our packaging and with our vendors.
Recycle
The nature of our business requires the use of many types of packaging and this may be a concern to our customers. Fresh Kitchen has made a commitment as a company to choose materials that can be recycled. With a little bit of care, much plastic can be recycled, and collection of plastics recycling is increasing. Wherever possible, we use plastic type 1 PETE plastic that is easily recycled. We also use recycled paper with a high percentage of post-consumer waste, and we maintain receptacles for glass and plastic recycling in our operations.
Green Building
Green building techniques greatly reduce the amount of virgin raw materials used in construction, thus saving natural resources. Fresh Kitchen is proud to have partnered with Toker and Associates Architecture and Design in the construction of our first location. Toker and Associates have received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. This system promotes buildings that are environmentally responsible and healthy places to shop and work.
We are all in this together! At Fresh Kitchen we take our commitment to the environment to heart. Supporting sustainable environmental practices means making decisions daily that positively impact the health of our planet. By doing all of these things listed here, we are thinking and acting green.
